Canada Agriculture Day
February 15th, 2023 is Canada's Agriculture Day! How will you celebrate?
As part of the celebrations, Agriculture in the Classroom Newfoundland and Labrador (AITC-NL) will be hosting an in-person event with Cowan Heights Elementary in St. John’s. Agriculture in the Classroom NL will be hosting a trade show in the gymnasium with farmers, agriculture professionals and special guests. Students will also receive exciting resources and giveaways.
Agriculture in the Classroom NL will also be sharing a virtual LIVE performance from the JUNO Award winning, The Swinging Belles from Cowan Heights Elementary! The Swinging Belles are a Canadian children's music group from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. The band, who perform in a swing jazz style, consists of vocalists Laura Winter and Erin Power, and guitarist Duane Andrews. Teachers can sign up to receive a link for this performance that they can watch in the classroom with their students. Learn more about The Swinging Belles HERE.
All teachers (Kindergarden-12) throughout the province will also have the opportunity to participate through a Twitter contest. Show us how your class celebrates Canada’s Agriculture Day, and be sure to add the hashtag #CdnAgDay and tag @AITCNL. We encourage all teachers to show us how they celebrate the food we grow here in Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as Canada.
